GAA partnering with Thai Union, Devi Seafoods on traceability data-sharing project

February 26, 2021 โ€” The Global Aquaculture Allianceโ€™s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification program is collaborating with seafood companies Thai Union and Devi Seafoods โ€“ along with traceability firms Wholechain and Legit Fish โ€“ to promote traceability in supply chains.

Their partnership is developing real-time digital solutions that will facilitate direct transfer of data from BAP-certified facilities to BAPโ€™s internal data systems to support tracing of products in companiesโ€™ supply chains. This integration program is expected to meet traceability data requirements from seafood companies, the marketplace, regulators, and BAP itself, BAP said in a statement.

Building consumer trust: Wholechain pilots blockchain traceability tech

December 12, 2019 โ€” The journey of the Fair Trade USA-certified shrimp harvested from Altata Bay in Mexico to Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. is tracked and documented using one of the most cutting-edge traceability technologies: blockchain.

Part of a pilot project between Fair Trade USA and blockchain solution provider Wholechain, the Del Pacifico-distributed shrimp in the frozen section of New Seasons Market demonstrate the promise of blockchain to ensure full transparency for a seafood sector rife with obscure supply chains and, sometimes, fraud.
