September 15, 2020 โ Six months after the first shutdown of restaurants for the coronavirus pandemic, at least 100,000 U.S. restaurants have permanently closed or will do so by the end of this year, according to a new survey.
In addition, the industry is on track to lose USD 240 billion (EUR 2020 billion) in sales by the end of this year, the National Restaurant Association said in a press release.

July 17, 2020 โ The United States government needs to take immediate action to stabilize restaurants, an industry group said, even as seafood restaurants shut down or stop paying rent.
On 15 July, the National Restaurant Association (NRA) sent its โBlueprint for Restaurant Revivalโ to Congress. The comprehensive policy and legislative plan outlines โspecific and immediate action the federal government should take to stabilize the industry in the short-term and set the foundation for long-term rebuilding,โ the NRA said in a press release.

June 25, 2020 โ The National Fisheries Institute and other food industry groups are urging U.S. President Donald Trumpโs administration to prioritize food, agriculture, and retail workers for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
โScientists have advised that COVID-19 will remain a continuous public health concern, so the importance of a vaccine cannot be overstated. A vaccine targeting COVID-19 is likely the only way to generate immunity across a population,โ NFI, FMI โ the Food Industry Association, the National Restaurant Association, and other groups said in a letter to Trump.

March 26, 2020 โ This week, world-famous chefs Wolfgang Puck and Thomas Keller joined Tucker Carlson on Tucker Carlson Tonight to describe the difficulties faced by restaurants, their problems related to business interruption insurance, and keeping their teams together for when restaurants re-open. Chef Keller specifically mentioned concern for fishermen and farmers. Both chefs reminded viewers that restaurants are the largest private sector employers in the nation.
Economic forecasts indicate that restaurants and the foodservice industry could sustain $225 billion in losses and eliminate 5-7 million jobs over the next three months.
We are well aware that two-thirds of domestic seafood landed goes to restaurants, and the seafood community is concerned about the health of the restaurant industry. We encourage seafood industry members who want to support restaurants to use the tools made available by the National Restaurant Association to urge the President and Congress to support the association recovery plan.
