New COVID-19 relief bill could help US seafood suppliers get paid

July 30, 2020 โ€” Proposals for the next U.S. COVID-19 stimulus package are now being workshopped in the U.S. Senate, with food industry groups calling for changes and holding out hope that seafood suppliers will see reimbursement for unpaid invoices from foodservice buyers.

Legislators are negotiating several provisions of the โ€œHealth, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools (HEALS) Act,โ€ HEALS Act, and the National Fisheries Institute, the U.S. seafood trade lobby, is optimistic that it will end up benefitting the seafood industry.

US restaurant, distributor trade groups seek government help as profits plunge

March 20, 2020 โ€” As more U.S. states begin mandating restaurant closures or limited seating, restaurant and hospitality operators are reporting plunging profits and are instituting furloughs.

The United States National Restaurant Association and the International Foodservice Distributors Association are asking for immediate help from the Trump administration and Congress to stave off what theyโ€™re calling an imminent crisis for the U.S. foodservice industry.
