Four new Seafood Champions crowned in Bangkok, Thailand at SWSS19

June 11, 2019 โ€” The historic number of Seafood Champions grew by four on 11 June, when Diversified Communications and SeaWeb awarded Wakao Hanaoka, OceanMind, Darian McBain, and Francisco Blaha with the prestigious distinction in Bangkok, Thailand during the 2019 SeaWeb Seafood Summit this week.

The winners were chosen from a group of 17 finalists and are each regarded as seafood sustainability leaders committed to creatively and faithfully supporting the movement as it evolves, Diversified said in a press release. They were recognized during a special reception on the evening of Tuesday, 11 June at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, where the summit is being held from 10 to 15 June.

โ€œOnce again the Seafood Champion Awards bring together a collection of inspirational stories that exemplify the great work being done to make seafood more sustainable and more ethical,โ€ Diversified Communications Group Vice President Liz Plizga said. โ€œWe want to recognize and thank all our Seafood Champion Awards Finalists for the important work they are doing. The 17 finalists show how companies, governments, non-profits, and individuals are all having a positive impact on seafood across the globe.โ€

Change and progress are hallmarks of the 2019 Seafood Champion Awards recipients โ€“ the winners have been involved with changing how a country perceives sustainable seafood; transforming industry and supply chains; shifting how governments regulate fisheries and enforce the law; and redefining how individuals and communities support and benefit from sustainable fisheries.

2019 Seafood Expo North America brought over 21,500 industry professionals to Boston

April 8, 2019 โ€” Last month, more than 21,500 seafood industry professionals from around the world arrived in Boston, Massachusetts for the 2019 edition of Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, event organizer Diversified Communications revealed on 8 April.

With 1,329 exhibitors from 49 countries, this yearโ€™s expo โ€“ the largest of its kind in North America โ€“ covered 256,690 net square feet of exhibit space, Diversified confirmed. The atmosphere for SENA19 was lively and productive, with 600 key buyers perusing the show floor and conducting deals with suppliers, according to Wynter Courmont, event director for Diversified.

โ€œThe exhibitors and industry professionals at this yearโ€™s event were noticeably energized,โ€ Courmont said in a press release. โ€œThere was no shortage of excitement around individual companiesโ€™ innovative products, preparation and packaging concepts; and we also saw a lot of enthusiasm for industry-wide initiatives around sustainable sourcing, aquaculture and more.โ€

For Moises del Rio, general manager of Verlasso Salmon, the time spent in Boston for SENA19 served to reinforce and amplify his companyโ€™s promotional and networking success.

โ€œVerlasso has always been involved in the event, as itโ€™s one of the main platforms in this industry where we can tell our story to a broader audience,โ€ he said. โ€œFrom the very inception of Verlasso, Seafood Expo North America has allowed us to build relationships that today, 8 years later, still remain very strong.โ€

The chief supply chain officer for U.S. restaurant chain Captain Dโ€™s, who brought a team of key buyers to the expo, remarked on the convenience and efficiencies the Boston-based event offers.
