June 21, 2013 — On Wednesday, June 26, the Northeast Fisheries Science Center and NOAA's Regional Office staff will hold a public meeting at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Mass., from 4 to 6 p.m., with the fishing industry to discuss and get input on the design of a collaborative research project with the groundfish industry to gather more information on yellowtail flounder.

NOAA Fisheries is aware of concerns about the recent Georges Bank yellowtail flounder assessment. In order to address these concerns and improve our understanding of flatfish abundance on Georges Bank, we will be conducting a pilot flatfish survey in August aboard two commercial fishing vessels. We invite members of the commercial fishing industry and general public to join us to discuss the goals and design of this collaborative project.
