May 6, 2014 — Marine scientists from around the world have converged on UMass Dartmouth this week for their annual conference, starting with an all-day session at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
The conference is jointly sponsored by the UMass School for Marine Science and Technology, the state Division of Marine Fisheries, and NOAA.
UMass stands to gain from establishing collaborative partnerships with other institutions.
Dr. Pingguo He of SMAST told The Standard-Times that the event is a good way for SMAST to demonstrate its growing reputation as a marine science hub.
With recent advances in stock assessment techniques at SMAST, Dr. He said that "we think it's a good venue for the meeting."
