FAIRHAVEN — A fire in the fish hold of a Fairhaven scalloper sent a plume of dense black smoke into the frigid air above Union Wharf late Saturday afternoon.
The fire was first reported at 4.12 p.m. Welding work below decks on the 102-foot steel fishing vessel Michigan ignited insulation and the fire spread to the fish hold. The Michigan was tied up alongside the wharf and there were no other vessels rafted up alongside.
