NEW BEDFORD — It was Nov. 30, 1977, when the 73-foot fishing vessel Navigator, with Capt. Norm Lepire and 12-member crew on board, left New Bedford for a 10-day Christmas trip in the waters east of Nantucket.
Around midnight that night, the scalloper made radio contact with another New Bedford boat, the Oceanic, near the Great Round Shoal channel.
And then it was gone. Forever.
