Christian Collins obviously knows seafood — his culinary skills indeed have carried him this summer to the Final Four of Fox TV's popular "MasterChef" reality TV competition that climaxes in a two-hour finale tonight.
But Collins' comments at last week's Seafood Throwdown, where he served as a judge in the Cape Ann Farmers' Market Seafood Throwdown competition, showed that he doesn't know commercial fishing.
Noting Throwdown coordinator Niaz Dorry's choice of skate as the surprise ingredient — and an "underutilized" fish — Collins noted that was "super important … with all the overfishing going on." He added that he supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's catch shares program as a means of addressing the perceived problem.
