Feb. 6, 2013 — Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) appeared on Fox & Friends this morning. Her comments on New England fisheries begin at 2:45.
Sen. Ayotte explains that recent cuts to cod fishing voted on by the New England Fishery Management Council will put many of her constituents, who operate small fishing operations, out of business. She said that the new regulations benefit larger fishing operations, calling the regulations "another too big to fail deal from the government."
Sen. Ayotte introduced a bill that will impede NOAA's ability to enforce these regulations if there is more than a 15 percent job loss in the fishery, saying that the organization needs to strike a balance and make sure that no more fishermen lose their jobs. "It's really sad and outrageous what NOAA is doing to our fishermen," the Senator said.
