Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmospheres, Fisheries, and Coast Guard Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) today sent a letter to NOAA Administrator, Jane Lubchenco to thank her for her expressed commitment to New England’s fishing communities.
Snowe was joined on the letter by seven of her New England colleagues: U.S. Senators Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), John Kerry (D-Mass.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
Lubchenco called Snowe immediately after being confirmed last month, and subsequently scheduled a series of meetings on the National Marine Fisheries Service’s proposed interim rule that will regulate the New England groundfishery for fishing year 2009.
