WASHINGTON, DC – November 6, 2009 – Congressman Barney Frank today released a letter to Admiral Thad Allen, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, and Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The letter requests that the Coast Guard refrain from challenging a Massachusetts state law which requires safeguards for single-hulled oil tankers navigating Buzzards Bay. TheMassachusetts law was written in response to the 2003 accident which spilled over 100,000 gallons of oil into the bay.
The letter, signed by Senators Kerry and Kirk, as well as Representatives Frank, McGovern, and Delahunt is attached.
