Two Massachusetts Congressman on Thursday called for the nation’s oceans chief to step down, saying she’s failed the region’s struggling fishermen.
U.S. Reps. Barney Frank and John Tierney said National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration head Jane Lubchenco should resign, and Frank said he intends to bring his request to the White House.
Frank and Tierney represent New Bedford and Gloucester, respectively, New England’s biggest fishing ports.
In an interview on WBSM-AM in New Bedford, Frank said Lubchenco has shown indifference toward fishermen and been unwilling to work to ease tightening regulations, such as extending timelines by which fish stocks must be rebuilt.
