July 20, 2012 — The military annually endorses sports such as stock-car racing and professional fishing, but some members of Congress weren’t sure it was that great of an idea.
Reps. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., and Betty McCollum, D-Minn., proposed a bill that would cut the funding for those, and other programs, saying that it wasn’t within the military‘s scope of spending.
There must be more than a few fishermen in Congress, because the Bill was rejected to the tune of 216-202, according to the Washington Post. It’s good news for many fishing tours. The FLW walleye tour has the National Guard as their sponsor, and there are plenty of partnerships with other branches of the military with professional bass fishing.
