NEW YORK, N.Y. — A drowning fisherman who fell off a New York City pier Saturday was saved by a fellow angler who snagged his clothing with a fishing hook, holding him steady until emergency workers arrived.
The unidentified fisherman toppled off the Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn into the Jamaica Bay at about 12:45 p.m., police and fire officials said. An astute angler immediately cast a line, hooked him and kept his head above water.
