WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — December 8, 2014 — A study alleging fish caught from a lake near a Duke Energy coal ash dump were unsafe for people to eat has been withdrawn after the utility raised questions about the findings.
The study released Monday by the Southern Environmental Law Center was written by two University of Florida professors who claimed Duke's own tissue samples from fish caught at Sutton Lake outside Wilmington showed concentrations of selenium exceeding levels deemed safe for daily consumption.
