March 2, 2015 — Striped bass, summer flounder and black sea bass are expected to get the lion's share of attention at the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meeting this Thursday afternoon in Absecon.
The striped bass bonus program, the length of the 2015 summer flounder season and size and bag limits for black sea bass are all slated for discussion and possible action.
Russ Allen, a fisheries biologist with the N.J. Bureau of Marine Fisheries expects decisions to be finalized on the bonus program and summer flounder, but some more work might have to be done when it comes to black sea bass.
The options for the bonus program, which allows a bonus permit holder to keep one striped bass in addition to those already allowed under the regulations, are one fish at 28 inches or a slot fish between 24 inches and less than 28 inches.
