NEW BEDFORD — There is no welcome mat for a federal fisheries law enforcement officer being transferred to New Bedford after being involved in the prosecutorial abuses uncovered in the Gloucester office of NOAA.
"Ill advised, uninformed, insensitive, retaliatory," Mayor Scott Lang said Thursday.
"We're apprehensive about anyone who was involved in the abuses that were documented in the inspector general's report now being transferred to New Bedford," he said.
Lang was referring to Susan Williams, a criminal investigator in the Boston/Chelsea fisheries law enforcement office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She is in the process of being reassigned to the agency's New Bedford office, several sources inside and outside NOAA confirmed.
While word of the transfer has been around for several weeks, a spokeswoman at NOAA said the agency has no transfers or promotions to announce in the New England region. But that is standard practice when decisions are not yet final.
