BOSTON — January 7, 2015 — The state will receive $8.3 million in a second round of funding by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to support Massachusetts ground fishermen following the 2014 federal disaster declaration, the Patrick Administration announced today.
These funds are a portion of the $75 million allocated by U.S. Congress as part of its Fiscal Year 2014 budget to help with six fishery disasters around the country, of which Massachusetts received $14.6 million.
The Division of Marine Fisheries will use this funding to provide assistance to a broader population affected by the fisheries disaster to address the ripple effects felt throughout the state's fishing communities, according to a release from the governor's office.
