November 14, 2014 — Beginning Monday, the Times will present a five-day series on the people in this fight for survival of an industry and a way of life. Titled “Fish Tales,” and led by Times fisheries and waterfront reporter Sean Horgan, it spotlights local fishermen telling the compelling tales of their own lives and challenges — through stories in the Times and in digital video interviews at gloucestertimes.com.
NOAA Fisheries has announced and now imposed tough, new measures targeting what it views as the continued depletion of Gulf of Maine cod — measures that many believe threaten Gloucester’s groundfishing industry and waterfront economy to the core.
But they also deal another harsh blow to Gloucester’s fishermen, their families, their lives.
