February 9, 2015 — Fire officials cleared the Pier Fish Co. plant for occupancy about noontime Friday after an ammonia leak Thursday night forced the plant's evacuation and sent one worker to the hospital.
"We are allowing the building to be reoccupied," Fire Chief Michael Gomes said, explaining the danger had been abated. "I'm comfortable with allowing people to clean up."
He described ammonia levels as "acceptable."
"I'm comfortable there is no further release and just residue and they're trying to clean it up and to get out of there," he said.
A company spokesman, who declined to give his name when asked twice, said the Pier Fish Co. was cleared to resume operations. "We are going to be operational," he said. "To what extent I don't know."
