The Associated Fisheries of Maine has joined what it termed the "chorus of voices" asking that the New England Fishery Management Council reconsider its November vote on Scallop Framework 21.
The Maine group is primarily composed of groundfish vessels. They stated in its letter that November vote represents a loss in landings of approximately 300,000 lbs. They argue that this "significant loss in potential IFQ allocation would mark a bad start to the first true 'catch share' program in New England."
