SEAFOOD.COM NEWS– January 24, 2014 — Louisiana fishermen landed their best overhaul shrimp harvest in the last five years in 2013 but it wasn't enough to offset catch declines from the other Gulf states that resulted in an overall decline in YTD shrimp catches from the region.

Shrimp landings from Louisiana were up 4.5 percent in 2013 compared to 2012. The 57.6 million pound catch is the highest recorded figure from the fishery in the last five years.
However, Louisiana's strong year was unable to lift YTD landings past 2012 levels with the total Gulf shrimp catch down about 2.2 percent to 115.2 million pounds.
Catch declines from Texas, Alabama and Mississippi contributed to the lackluster 2013 harvest which is the lowest total shrimp catch from the region since 2010.
