Sen. Scott Brown showed up for the city’s fishing industry Saturday morning, making appearances at both New Bedford Ship Supply and the Waterfront Grille.
The freshman Republican clearly cares about the important city industry and he avoided partisan rhetoric on the issue saying he’s working closely with Democratic Congressman Barney Frank and Sen. John Kerry.
“Congressman Frank, Sen. Kerry and I have been working our rear-ends ends off in this issue,” he said.
“We’re going to try to get NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to step out of their comfort zone and focus on fairness,” he said.
Brown is clearly a novice on the complex economy and regulations that govern the fishing industry and he acknowledged that.
“It just doesn’t make sense,” he said. “Just looking outside and seeing all those boats sitting there on a beautiful day like this doesn’t make sense.”
