BOSTON — August 20, 2012 — Hundreds of North End residents and visitors gathered over the weekend for the annual procession to Boston Harbor and the Blessing of the Fishing Waters that began the annual Fisherman’s Feast in honor of Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca.
The celebration, one of the largest of the North End’s summer feasts, originated in the 16th century in the Sicilian fishing village of Sciacca. The celebration began Thursday with the annual procession to Boston Harbor and the Blessing of the Fishing Waters.
