WASHINGTON — Jan 24, 2013 — NOAA Fisheries Northeast Regional Office issued the following reminder today:
Last fall, we announced a delay in implementation of the Coastal Gulf of Maine Area closure to protect harbor porpoise after receiving new information, which showed that by shifting the closure to the spring we could both protect harbor porpoise and mitigate the impact on the fishing industry.
We want to remind fishermen that this closure is effective February 1 through March 31.
