Commercial anglers will be prohibited from landing Atlantic herring from one management area until next year.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Management Area 1A is the region affected by the closure to fishing because herring harvesters are projected to reach 95 percent of the allowable catch. The area was closed on Thursday.
The restriction is set in accordance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s management plan. The plan addresses the need to control the number of allowed fishing days to manage the resource.
