June 14, 2013 — The New England Fisheries Management Council will be voting on a proposed closed area on Stellwagen Bank known as SERA to recreational fisherman and is 55 square miles in size. Closing this area will provide no benefit to rebuilding stocks and only hurt recreational anglers and charter boats along with tackle shops, tuna and shark fisherman.
I am asking anyone who fishes no matter where to send a letter into the New England Fisheries Management Council opposing this proposal. Letters can be sent to joleary@nefmc.org and must be received by Monday. Please make the subject line Habitat Protection Proposal Comments and here is a sample letter which you can edit to your needs. This will only be the beginning in shutting down additional waters in the northeast to fisherman. Please we need your help. Thank you.
