WASHINGTON, D.C.– 15 Feb 2012 – NOAA Fisheries (National Marine Fisheries Service) chief Sam Rauch joined Saving Seafood executive director Bob Vanasse today on WBSM's Saving Seafood Radio.
Mr. Rauch discussed his background and plans for the agency, including his views on social and community concerns, the economic importance of the fishing industry, and plans for potentially more cooperative research.
There was an in-depth discussion of the current issues and the situation surrounding Gulf of Maine cod including efforts to allow flexibility in setting the rules for the 2012 season, concerns regarding the 2011 assessment, and plans for examining additional data before the 2013 season.
Finally Mr. Rauch discussed his plans for the Boston Seafood Show and the re-launch of the Fish Watch program and website.
