Protestors gathered in downtown Portland, Maine to oppose a new commercial fishing management plan due to come into effect next May.
The so-called "catch share" system will allocate shares of the annual groundfish catch to groups of fishermen. At the Portland rally, held two days ahead of a larger event due to take place in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Friday, members of the Fair Fish Campaign claimed the new quota-based system will drive the smaller fishermen out of business.
