Having fished in local waters for 33 years, Timmy Edens, from Sneads Ferry, is now going to have to find a new way to do it.
A settlement was reached between The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center and North Carolina fishery officials revising regulations to address interactions with sea turtles in the state’s gill net fishery.
The new regulations, being implemented today, have Edens concerned.
“I’m not feeling good about them right now,” he said. “I have $5,000 to $6,000 worth of nets in my backyard I’m not going to be able to use.”
