Fisheries regulators have been meeting today to re-consider a petition filed by a group of mid-coast ground fishermen that's trying to prevent herring trawlers from dragging their nets through protected groundfish spawning areas.
Members of the New England Fisheries Management Council convened in Portland after a federal judge last week ordered them to revisit the issue.
Late this aternoon they voted on an appeal from the Midcoast Fishermen's Association to restrict the activity of so-called mid-water trawlers. As of this publication date there has not been an announcement on how the Council voted.
