The federal Commerce Secretary who's been under fire among fishing interests for shooting down congressional lawmakers' and Gov. Deval Patrick's requests to boost New England fishing quotas has been tapped by President Obama for a new job — ambassador to China.
Gary Locke is the president's nominating choice to be the nation's next ambassador to China, according to Associated Press and other media reports Monday night.
Locke, a former two-term governor of Washington state, is Chinese-American; . Locke's father and maternal grandfather emigrated from China to Seattle. As a partner in the Seattle office of the international law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Locke co-chaired the firm's China practice.
