June 9, 2015 — LIBERIA — The Government of Liberia and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement on a new Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, as well as an associated protocol.
The five-year agreement was signed over the weekend after a third round of negotiations between Liberia, represented by the Minister of Agriculture Florence Chenoweth, and EU represented by Mr. De Cesari, Head of Unit at the EU’s Fisheries Directorate General.
According to a release, the agreement set out the fishing opportunities for EU vessels, financial compensation to be paid by EU and the modalities of sectoral support to the fishing sector of Liberia.
EU Ambassador to Liberia Tiina Intelmann expressed her satisfaction for the agreement due its benefits to the country.
