NOVA SCOTIA, Canada โ November 12, 2013 โ Some Nova Scotia communities are stepping closer to creating fishing licence banks to keep high-value licences available to local commercial fishermen.
A report released by the Ecology Action Centre Tuesday outlines recommendations for groups and communities to begin the discussion of how to keep their fishery and high-value licences close to home.
The Social Impact Investing for Sustainable Fishing Communities report is the result of a workshop held earlier this year by the centre on how some communities in British Columbia and New England have pooled together to keep fishing licences in their communities.
โThere are (Nova Scotia communities) that are definitely ready to take this next step,โ said Susanna Fuller, the Ecology Action Centreโs marine conservation co-ordinator.
