October 19, 2015 — The National Customs Service, along with the Regional Ministerial Secretariat (SEREMI) of Health of Bio Bio and the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA), detected a container of canned Pacific menhaden (Ethmidium maculatum) that had been declared and labelled as horse mackerel (Trachurus murphyi).
Aqua reported that the cargo was intended to be marketed in the region of Bio Bio and the declaration and labelling had been falsified.
The process began thanks to the joint work that enabled the Risk Analysis Unit of Customs of Talcahuano to identify and select for review a shipment coming from the port of Callao, Peru, for a Chilean food marketer.
