Promising skipjack tuna and bluefin tuna landing numbers registered in the ports of Hondarribia, Getaria and Ondarroa have lifted fishers’ hopes about their prospects for the new fishing season.
Although few vessels unloaded tuna this time, the first numbers indicate that the season could be economically beneficial, despite the anchovy prohibition and low prices mackerel has fetched on the market.
Hondarribia received 30 tonnes of bluefin tuna on 28 June; Getaria received 19 tonnes of skipjack tuna and 1 tonne of tuna; while Ondarroa received 10 tonnes of skipjack tuna.
