A bipartisan trio of lawmakers from Massachusetts and North Carolina expressed "astonishment" that Mr. Dale Jones, the former Director of the Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) remains on NOAA's payroll.
"Apparently the reward for highly questionable actions at NOAA's OLE is a paid vacation," said Congressman Barney Frank. Congressman Walter Jones noted that "taxpayers pay the salaries of NOAA employees and they have a right to know the truth about Dale Jones."
BOSTON – August 4, 2010 – A trio of lawmakers say they'll request a Congressional hearing on why the ousted former top fisheries cop remains on a federal payroll.
Dale Jones, former chief of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's law enforcement agency, was replaced in April after revelations that he wrongly ordered documents shredded during an investigation into his agency.
The investigation found mismanagement and later revealed misspending of fines collected from fishermen.
NOAA never specified Jones' status at the agency, citing privacy laws.
