FAIRHAVEN — The Coast Guard and state environmental police are teaming up this summer to crack down on illegal recreational fishing, Environmental Police Capt. Patrick Moran said.
“There’s a lot of poaching going on,’’ Moran said.
David Botelho of Fairhaven was summonsed into District Court on charges of fishing for black sea bass during closed season; possession of undersized black sea bass and possession of black sea bass over the recreational limit. His age and address were not available.
The charges stemmed from an incident Monday when the 23-foot cabin boat he was captaining, the Ava May out of Fairhaven, was boarded by the Coast Guard on a random boating check, Moran said. Once aboard, the Coast Guard determined that the boat captain’s charter license had expired, Moran said.
