February 23, 2015 — Maine fishery managers say the Cobscook Bay area will remain open for scallop harvesting until at least the end of the month.
State Department of Marine Resources officials say the scallop-rich area will stay open until at least Feb. 25 for draggers and Feb. 28 for divers. The state's other two scallop harvesting zones are also remaining open as scheduled.
State officials say port samplings, industry reports and other sources show that the area has not yet reached the 30 to 40 percent harvest target that would trigger a closure.
