March 22, 2012 – Years of economic pain has sharpened the message of fishing advocates who want Congress to make changes to the federal fisheries law, and the rhetoric.
“I have a front-row seat,” Rep. Steve Southerland II, R-Fla., told around 1,000 fishermen gathered in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, as he fumed over restrictions on Gulf of Mexico fishermen. “It’s a freedom issue.”
Not to be outdone by President Obama’s recent singing, Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., dipped into Ray Charles’ repetiore to express his feelings about fishing cutbacks and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
