NEW BEDFORD — The co-owner of Foley Fish, a century-old seafood processing company, has been nominated by Gov. Deval Patrick to an at-large seat on the New England Fishery Management Council.
Laura Foley Ramsden would be the first woman representing Massachusetts on the council if chosen by Eric Schwaab, head of the National Marine Fisheries Service.
In a letter to Schwaab on behalf of Patrick, Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray said: "Starting at the age of 15, she made an effort to learn every job in the plant from production to marketing, culminating in co-ownership in 2005. Her work experience provides her with a unique view on the economic impact fisheries management measures have on the marketability of New England seafood."
She was nominated to fill the seat now held by James J. Fair Jr. of East Sandwich.
