NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — February 21, 2014 — Long-time local fisherman and scalloper Eric Hansen has been recommended by Mayor Jon Mitchell as the replacement for Laura Foley Ramsden on the New England Fisheries Management Council.
Hansen owns the scalloper Endeavor, out of Fairhaven. "He is deeply rooted in many important fishing constituency groups, and has made himself a leader in the communities of Greater New Bedford and Fairhaven," Mitchell said in a letter to the council.
Hansen, who now lives in Mattapoisett, skippered fishing boats out of New Bedford for 25 years, according to a spokeswoman for the mayor.
