NEW BEDFORD, Mass – A New Jersey-based wind energy company with a request for proposal (RFP) before the state to establish a wind turbine installation off New Bedford waters, will make its pitch to local fisherman during a meet and greet designed to explain what impacts water-based wind turbines will have on fishing.
Fishermen’s Energy, LLC, will conduct a meeting from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, at the New Bedford Whaling Museum to outline its Massachusetts RFP for the development of offshore wind, including in the Lightship area and East of the Channel.
A spokesman for Fishermen’s Energy said the company is sponsoring the meeting because “We believe the fishing industry is not fully aware of the scale of development planned for offshore wind.”
Fishermen’s Energy officials acknowledge there are proposed for historically rich fishing grounds.
