On the sixth anniversary of the Buzzards Bay oil spill, the environmental engineering firm hired by Bouchard Transportation Inc. to mop up the oil-soaked shoreline has declared the cleanup complete.
Richard J. Wozmak of GeoInsight Inc. said he will submit a final report to the state today that wraps up cleanup activities along a section of Mattapoisett shoreline encompassing the western half of Brandt Island, Leisure Shores Beach and Howard Beach.
The report "in essence will close out the whole Buzzards Bay site associated with this release," Wozmak said.
"I do believe that when you think about the size of this release and you walk the shoreline today, you can see that the cleanup was comprehensive and that it is very difficult to spot any residual oil that may have been left behind as part of this release and cleanup process."
