AUGUSTA, Maine — March 2, 2014 — Several New England groups are part of a consortium that's being honored for its efforts to reduce unintended bycatch of species like sea turtles, whales and seals.
The Consortium for Bycatch Reduction has won the Katerva Award in Ecosystem Conservation, which is given to projects that promote sustainability. Among the groups in the consortium are the Maine Lobsterman's Association, the New England Aquarium and the University of New Hampshire.
