UMass Dartmouth is establishing a Research Support Fund in honor of School of Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) founding Dean Brian Rothschild, who is retiring this fall. The Brian Rothschild Research Support Fund will support the continued excellence in fisheries research.
September 24, 2013 — The following was released by the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth:
Dr. Brian Rothschild is also the former Co-Director of the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute (MFI) and has served as the Montgomery Charter Professor of Marine Science at SMAST, Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Fisheries Recovery Commission, and member of the editorial board of The Sea: Ideas and Observations on Progress in the Study of the Seas.
Dr. Rothschild has served on many national and international committees, and has held positions with such institutions as Harvard University, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His research and service have been widely acknowledged, including in 2004 for the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists and in 2007 for the Sustainability Fisheries Leadership Award by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He has also written or edited five books and approximately one hundred research papers.
