By a vote of 94 to 3, the U.S. Senate has confirmed Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts to be the next Secretary of State. He will succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton.
January 29, 2013 — Sen. Kerry has, in recent years, taken a leading role in issues related to fisheries.
Congressman Ed Markey, the dean of the Massachusetts congressional delegation, has announced his intention to run for the seat that Sen. Kerry will vacate upon becoming Secretary of State. Congressman Markey is the ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources committee which oversees fisheries.
