April 17, 2013 — We invite you to participate in a Workshop hosted by the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute (MFI) on "Incorporating Environmental Change in Assessments and Management" on May 7-8 at the UMass School for Marine Science & Technology in Fairhaven MA (Room 158 on 2nd floor, directions attached).
In collaboration with the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, the MFI is coordinating an End-to-End Review of New England Groundfish Stock Assessments, and this workshop topic was identified at a recent scoping meeting in that process (report attached). The workshop will include presentations of case studies in which environmental change has been successfully incorporated into stock assessments, discussion on how similar methods might be applied to New England groundfish, and the formation of short-term recommendations.
The meetings are open to all interested parties who register by contacting Emily Keiley, ekeiley@umassd.edu, so please forward this announcement to anyone else in your organization or professional network who might be interested. Please also contact Emily if you would like the steering group to consider a presentation of your research for the agenda. A more detailed agenda will be distributed to registrants in advance of the meeting.
Thanks,
Steve Cadrin and Brian Rothschild
