Dr. William (Bill) Karp has been named as the Science and Research Director for the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, the research arm of NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service in the region.
Karp has been acting in the position since the beginning of this year, detailed to the slot from his position as deputy director of the NMFS Alaska Fisheries Science Center. He will report for his new position in September. In the meantime, the current NEFSC deputy, Dr. Russell Brown, will act as Science and Research director so that Bill may transition from his current home in Seattle to the East Coast.
